Straightforward 1:1 Learning Difficulties Private Assessment

Learning difficulties private assessment

Assessments in calm and friendly surroundings.

Some students struggle with assessments in school. Some struggle with groups. Some struggle with school itself. This can be particularly so for neurodivergent children and/or those with processing difficulties. Sometimes assessment waiting lists in school can be long and sometimes parents just want to have a detailed analysis of their child’s profile so that they can support at home.

Whatever the reason, I offer a 1:1 service where the environment is calmer and the pace a little slower. I can assess in my home in Ashford or, if you would prefer, can come to you. I am not limited to term time only and so can assess in the holidays or at weekends if that suits your schedule better.

How it works

1:1 Learning Difficulties Private Assessment

The infographic on this page gives a step by step guide on how to ask me to assess your child.  You can download it here for your information if you would like.

The first step is to have a chat so that we can decide upon a good date to assess and where the assessment should take place. I will also need to know some details about your child’s difficulties, how long they have been present and what support school has offered. Any diagnoses will be discussed at this point so that I can ensure I can create a safe psychological space for the assessment.

I will then need to contact your child’s school SENCO to create the working relationship required for JCQ regulations. I can assess without this, but do bear in mind that without this contact, the assessment cannot be used for examination access arrangements purposes. The SENCO must send me a a Form 8 with Part 1 completed.

On the assessment day, we will take the assessment at your child’s pace. The tests themselves are timed, but we can schedule in breaks wherever needed to support a calm experience.

After the assessment, I will then go away to mark all the tests and write a full and detailed report for you. The report will include all of the tests scores but will also explain what they mean and suggest ideas for support at school. Please bear in mind that these will only be recommendations as it is the school SENCO that decides what support should be in place, not any assessor. I can only recommend. I will also complete Form 8 Part 2 for school should the assessments scores meet JCQ criteria, send my assessor qualification certificate and with your permission, send the report as well.

Note:  any assessment carried out before Year 9 will be invalid for GCSE and will need to be done again at a later date to comply with JCQ regulations.

Requirements & Fees

If assessing at your home, I will need a quiet room for the assessment process. The assessment room should be available for the whole time I am there please. There should be no interruptions if at all possible.

Fees for 2024/2025 for a full 1:1 private assessment, detailed report and paperwork for school is £200. I am not VAT registered and travel costs within Kent are included. I am happy to travel further afield but travel costs may be incurred depending on distance.
